How to Get Your Google Play Opt-in Link (and Share It With Testers)
Where to find the closed testing opt-in link in Play Console, why it sometimes doesn't work, and a ready-to-send message for your testers.
Where to find the link
- Open your app in Play Console.
- Go to Test and release → Testing → Closed testing.
- Open your closed track (often called Alpha) with Manage track.
- Select the Testers tab.
- Find How testers join your test and copy the link.
The link follows a fixed pattern, play.google.com/apps/testing/ plus your package name, so it never changes for that app.
What testers do with it
- 1Step 1
Open the link
Signed in with the Google account they use on Play Store.
- 2Step 2
Tap Become a tester
This is the opt-in, the step that makes them count.
- 3Step 3
Install from Play Store
There's a Download link on the same page.
- Step 4
Keep it
Stay opted in for the whole 14 days.
Why the link sometimes doesn't work
| What the tester sees | Usual cause | Fix |
|---|---|---|
| "App not available" / error page | Your release isn't approved and live yet | Wait for Google's review to finish |
| "You're not a tester" | Their Google account isn't on your list or in your group | Add the exact Gmail they use on Play Store |
| Can't install after opting in | Their country isn't selected for the track | Add their country under Countries / regions |
| Joined, but not counted | They opened the link but didn't tap Become a tester | Ask them to open it again and opt in |

FAQ
Does the opt-in link change?
No. It's always play.google.com/apps/testing/ followed by your package name, so you can share it once and reuse it for the whole test.
Can anyone with the link join my closed test?
No. Only people on your tester email list or in your Google Group can opt in, and only when they're signed in with that same Google account.
Why does the link show an error?
Usually because the release on your closed track hasn't been approved yet. The link only works once a release is live on the track.
Do testers have to open the link on their phone?
They can opt in from a computer too, as long as they're signed in with the same Google account they use on their phone. Then they install from Play Store on the phone.
